About the project

A love letter to chess, with the nerve of dice

Dice & Chess started with a simple question: what happens to the world's deepest game when you can't fully control it?

Chess is perfect — and that's exactly its weight. Openings are mapped, engines are unbeatable, and one mistake against a stronger player usually means a slow, certain defeat. We wanted the depth of chess with the heartbeat of a game night: moments where fortune cracks a door open and skill decides who walks through.

Dice Chess is that game. Three dice choose which pieces may move; you choose everything else. Weak players get real chances against strong ones, strong players get a new axis of skill — playing the odds, not just the board — and every single turn carries a little drama. When the king can actually be captured, nobody is ever completely safe.

We're building it as an independent project with a small team and serious engineering standards: authoritative game servers so online play is provably fair, chess clocks that can't be gamed, matchmaking that respects your time, and an economy that sells style, never strength.

The game is in active development. The ranked ladder, live matches, reconnection, and rewards are already running end to end — right now we're polishing, balancing, and preparing for release on iOS and Android. Everything we ship, we ship because we'd want to play it ourselves.

What we hold ourselves to

  • Drama in every turn

The roll creates tension; the move resolves it. No dead turns, no autopilot.

  • Provably fair

Dice, moves, clocks, and rewards are decided on our servers — never on a player's device.

  • Style over power

Cosmetics are the only things money can buy. The ladder is earned, not purchased.

  • Respect for chess

Classic chess, real Stockfish, and honest puzzles live alongside the flagship — no gimmicks.
