FAQ

Questions, answered

The things players ask us most — about the dice, the launch, and fairness.

What exactly is Dice Chess?

It's chess with one twist: at the start of your turn you roll three dice, and each die face corresponds to a piece type — from pawn to king. You may only move pieces whose type matches an unused die. Instead of checkmate, you win by actually capturing the enemy king.

Is it still a game of skill?

Very much so. The dice decide which pieces may move — you decide where, and that's where games are won. Great players plan for several dice outcomes at once, keep their king safe from bad rolls, and convert lucky turns ruthlessly. Luck deals the hand; skill plays it.

When does Dice & Chess launch?

The game is in active development and the online systems — ranked matchmaking, arenas, and secure game servers — are already running. Store release on iOS and Android is coming soon; follow the News page for launch announcements.

Will it be free?

Yes — free to download and play. Optional cosmetics like board themes, piece skins, and dice designs support development. There is no pay-to-win: dice are rolled on the server and rewards follow the same rules for everyone.

Do I need an internet connection?

Yes, Dice & Chess is an online-first game — your profile, progress, and rewards live safely on our servers. Solo modes like AI battles and puzzles, plus local two-player hot-seat games, are played on a single device.

Can I play normal chess without dice?

Of course. Classic Chess with the full ruleset is a first-class mode — play online, pass-and-play on one device, or spar against the Stockfish engine across ten difficulty levels.

What happens if I disconnect during a ranked match?

The match keeps running on the server and your seat is held. Reopen the app and you'll be back on the board with the position, clocks, and dice exactly as you left them.
